The Hohner Schwarzwald White Baby Grand (extreme) contains 34 velocity layers in mic perspective 1, 34 layers in perspective 2, and 34 layers in perspective 3, giving this distinctive library over 200 samples per note, 102 layers, and over 17,000 unique samples.
This instrument is essentially 3 seperate high-resolution grands. At a price of £1.99 per layer, we believe this is the best value grand piano available on the commercial market.
Containing 60GB of data with 24-bit audio fidelity, the raw versatility and dynamics of this piano library has to be heard to be believed.
Perspective 1: Located 2 inches from the soundboard in wide stereo, for a dynamic "larger-than-life" sound.
Perspective 2: Located close to the strings, in stereo, for a close-miked "up front" sound.
Perspective 3: Located 2 metres from the piano, in mono, for a distant "room" sound. |
A common problem with grand piano samples, is in mixing with other instruments. The key to a piano sound that "sits" with the rest of the track is multiple mic perspectives. The use of multiple perspectives is a long-used trick in the record industry, and is essential for creating the right custom piano sound for mixing. The Hohner White Baby Grand (extreme) picks up where many sampled grand piano libraries fail. Each microphone perspective has been painstakingly edited simultaneously, with identical start times. Treat this sampled piano library like a recorded instrument. If you want a distant sound with more reverb, mix perspective 1 and 3. If you would prefer less room reverb, and a more percussive sound, use perspective 2
What about memory?
The White Baby Grand uses direct-from-disc technology, which means it has a RAM footprint of only 700MB.**
Although the specifications of this piano library are massive, here at imperfect samples we believe that the key to getting a sample library to sound decent, is the sound, not the specifications. Sound is an ineffable quality that that doesn't come down to quantifiable numbers such as velocity layers. The White Baby Grand has an intimate, raw sound.
